The Tipping Point: Why Founders Should Read This Book

When I first read Malcolm Gladwell’s The Tipping Point, I wasn’t sure if its ideas would apply to our work. At the time, I was scaling LOT.TO, the platform tech business I eventually sold to Sportech in 2018. We were growing, but I constantly questioned whether we were focusing on the right strategies to break through to the next level.

The book introduced me to the concept of a “tipping point” - the moment when an idea or product crosses a threshold and takes off. It made me rethink how small changes could create disproportionate results. For example, I started looking more critically at who we were targeting - connectors, mavens, and influencers - and questioning whether we were truly reaching the people who could amplify our message.

As a founder, I often second-guess my decisions. This book didn’t provide easy answers but gave me a framework to analyse why some strategies worked while others didn’t. It’s not a roadmap - it’s a perspective shift. If you’re feeling stuck or unsure how to push your startup to the next phase, The Tipping Point might challenge how you think about growth and influence.

Sometimes, the smallest insights spark the biggest changes.
