Swansea University Partners with RLAB Ventures to Deliver Innovation in Sports and Health
RLAB Ventures has successfully completed a comprehensive consultancy project commissioned by Swansea University. The partnership focused on delivering independent advice to foster private investment in the National Network for Innovation in Sports and Health (NNIISH), a pioneering initiative that seeks to transform lives through the intersection of Life Science, MedTech, and SportsTech.
NNIISH aims to create a world-class innovation hub by leveraging Swansea University's Institute of Life Science (ILS) and the health ecosystem of the Swansea Bay City Region. The initiative aspires to deliver a substantial economic and social impact, generating over 1,000 jobs, attracting significant investment, and positioning Swansea as a global leader in sports and health technology. It will drive cutting-edge research and development, particularly in digital and data-driven innovation, and co-locate academic, industry, and clinical infrastructure to foster collaboration and commercialisation opportunities.
Professor Keith Lloyd, Executive Dean and Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Medicine, Health & Life Sciences at Swansea University, expressed his enthusiasm for the project; "Our partnership with RLAB Ventures has been instrumental in advancing the university's ambitions to make NNIISH a global leader in sports and health innovation. The insights and strategic recommendations provided by RLAB have enabled us to align with the expectations of private investors, ensuring that we are well-positioned to drive impactful change in this critical field."
Jules Bewley, CEO of RLAB Ventures, highlighted the importance of the collaboration:
"Working with Swansea University on this project has been a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the future of sports and health innovation in the UK. Our role was to help bridge the gap between cutting-edge academic research and the needs of the investment community, and we are proud of the results we've achieved together."
The NNIISH initiative has ambitious goals to integrate life sciences, sports, and well-being, with the potential to revolutionise healthcare by promoting mental resilience, preventing illness, and enhancing public health. Its wide-ranging impact ranges from public health improvements to elite sports performance, making it a key driver of both economic and social transformation in the region.
